Navigation and Flight Planning

These days, navigation systems vary so widely between airplanes that an aircraft checkout usually includes quite a bit of information about the particular system. That said, unless you are using the system for instrument flying, knowing how to fly “direct to” is the gist of what you need to know from the get go. We find that pilots with GPS units are pretty good with knowing the basics of their individual system. What some of them are rusty with is more traditional methods of navigation.

In this section we’ll review VOR systems and procedures, and make a cross country flight plan.
