Welcome to the Instrument course. This course will prepare you to take the Instrument-Airplane FAA written test, as well as prepare you with the knowledge to pass the oral and flight exam to earn your instrument rating.

Each of our instructors is career pilot who operates under instrument flight rules (IFR) as standard procedure. We heavily emphasize the practical aspects of instrument flying, because we believe an instrument flying course should prepare new pilots—as best as possible—for the real world.

Instrument flying is, first and foremost, flying. Instrument training sharpens a pilot’s flying skills, but it is substantially easier if they enter instrument training with strong basic flying skills. Ideal instrument students will comfortably, in visual conditions, fly precisely without over-controlling the airplane. Instrument flying involves a lot of procedural work that can’t be accomplished in a timely manner if the pilot is fighting just to maintain basic control.

Most of all, we want to give you the tools and mindset to be a confident, competent real-world instrument pilot. Instrument procedures are complicated, but relatively straightforward. Decision-making in the instrument environment can be a challenge, and one that is harder to teach in training. Wherever possible, we focus on a practical approach to instrument flying: being conservative in risk-analysis, realistic in planning and training, and focused on developing habits that apply as pilots progress to faster airplanes.

Ok, let’s get started!
