Single Pilot Resource Management (SRM)

Single pilot resource management is the GA, single pilot version of CRM. It encourages the pilot to use all available resources to reduce workload, especially during critical phases. This can include ATC, technology, silent phases of flight, passengers, and autopilot, among other things. It’s worth noting, however, that resources should not be overruled on — pilots must make a constant effort to keep their skills sharp or they will experience a decline in their skills. You should not, by habit, turn on the autopilot on every cross country as soon as you hit 1000’. You should use it enough to stay proficient. And you should handfly enough to stay proficient. Then, when you’re in bad weather, planning a diversion, or dealing with a sick passenger, you know how to use the autopilot and can enable it to reduce your workload.
